Patients at a mental health rehabilitation unit in Dorking have been named winners in the Partnerships in Care hospitals national Green Fingers Awards.

Along with staff at Pelham Woods, the patients finished first in the Best Herb Garden category and second in the Transformation of the Year and Best Planter sections.

The inpatient rehabilitation service provides services for women who have complex mental health problems and a history of challenging behaviour.

Camilla Finch, one of the occupational therapists at Pelham Woods, who worked with the patients on the project, said: “Service users value the opportunities offered by these projects to develop practical skills.

“They reported significant satisfaction with their achievements and the benefit of having contributed to a successful team project.”

Joy Chamberlain, Partnerships in Care’s group chief executive, added: “This initiative, which is now in its third year, has generated many positive stories of patient engagement from our hospital teams.
