Planning permission granted for housing with Robert Myers Associates landscape strategy

Planning permission has been given for market housing at the £1 billion North West Cambridge development, including a landscape strategy by Robert Myers Associates.

The new urban neighbourhood has 240 new homes by architects Alison Brooks and Pollard Thomas Edwards, arranged to create a series of private gardens and terraces with park-like streets, tree-lined roads and mews. Living roofs will also include photovoltaics.

Following sustainable drainage system (SuDS) best practice, surface water will run off through a network of swales and rills, representative of the wider landscape and introducing new wildlife habitats. These will be complemented by underground storage tanks and rainwater collectors for irrigation.

Robert Myers said: “Our landscape design infuses each of these spaces with a distinct character and richness of detail, but uses a common design language and simple palette of materials to create a strong overall framework that will engender a sense of community, encourage outdoor activity and interaction within the neighbourhood.”
