Pro Gardens Ltd and SAiGE Longlife Decking Ltd have teamed up to produce a ‘The Low Line’ garden for a series of shows throughout the year. The garden aims to showcase SAiGE composite decking along with Pro Garden’s landscape design and construction skills.

After completing a number of classic designs over the last year, Pro Gardens decided along with its in-house designer Jamie Langlands that it wanted to produce something more contemporary having been inspired by Piet Oudolf’s masterful work on ‘The High Line’.

The company took the ethos of re-imagining older urban spaces with modern contemporary design features and incorporated a free-standing water wall into the garden, which is a bespoke piece designed in conjunction with H20 designs and was the main focal point in the garden.

After deciding on a planting scheme, which emphasised movement with drifts of grasses punctuated with splashes of vibrant colour, Pro Gardens set about putting the final touches to the arrangement of the hard landscaping to suit the garden.

On its choice of products for the project, Pro Gardens stated: “The SAiGE composite decking draws the eyes into the paved area of the garden, for which we used Stonemarket’s gravity basalt paving. We also accommodated a contemporary seating area using street furniture by Furnitubes, and added a white painted aluminium wall fabricated and supplied by our local Blacksmith.”

The garden was entered into this year’s RHS Malvern Spring Festival under the Festival Garden category, and received a silver medal. It also featured briefly on BBC Gardeners’ World, receiving a lot of attention for its water wall and planting, along with the mix of grasses.

It was then taken to Blenheim Flower Show in June with seasonal changes on the plants. The build took only four days to complete, and received a gold medal along with Best in Show, presented by Sir Ian McKellan.
