Pro Landscaper’s Lockdown Little Interview
Judy Shardlow – Heartwood Garden Design
So you’re self-isolating…who’s your favourite person to be locked up with?
My husband aka the junior gardener. He’s very capable in the garden these days and has always supported my garden design business.
Name one thing that’s changed about your daily routine that you’re going to take forward after lockdown’s over?
I’m in my garden every day! Before this I was spending more time on the computer, so that’s one good thing.
How many cups of tea/coffee are you now drinking per day?
A lot! About 10-12 mugs a day.
Best new Netflix/boxset series or book you’ve discovered?
I’ve been rewatching Westworld. “There’s a reckoning’ due..”
What do you miss most about life before lockdown?
Visiting plant nurseries and clients. I miss them both, but mainly the plants.
DIY vs gardening – which wins?
Gardening! I’m lucky enough to have a large garden to keep me sane during lockdown and I’ve also been using some of my exercise time to work in a community garden that I designed. Mulching is good therapy…
What time is wine o’clock?
On a bad day as early as 4.30pm!
When working from home is your background choice radio/tv/silence?
My Spotify playlist: Jude’s Faves which includes all my favourites including my current ‘go to’ for a jump around: “Mr Blue Sky” by ELO.
In hindsight, what would you have prepared in advance (ie food/diy products etc)
I would have bought more mulch in advance. I could also do with some deck paint.
Is the government doing a good job of keeping you informed?
Generally yes, but I’m keen to know what the exit strategy is. Is there one?
What’s your predicted date for return to normality?
Best new follow on social media?
Cambridge Botanic Gardens – they are doing a great job of trying to keep us all positive.
