Quadron’s Midlands Horticultural Development Manager, Nicola Clarke, was delighted to welcome six volunteers from 3M in Loughborough to help spruce up the garden at Dudley Court Sheltered Accommodation, Sileby.
The volunteers were taking part in the company’s community relations employee volunteering programme, ‘3Mgives’, which supports education, sustainability and well-being of communities close to its sites.
Following a short health and safety briefing, the volunteers set to work on three perennial flowerbeds, which had become neglected since the resident who once tended them had fallen ill.
The team then worked hard to remove thick brambles and half-moon the edges of the border to give them back their shape. The area underneath a memorial tree was also weeded and edged, and the garden was soon transformed into a more pleasant area for residents to enjoy.
Nicola Clarke, who liaised with 3M, local residents and Quadron’s client Charnwood Borough Council, to organise the volunteer session, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to work alongside the 3M staff. By the end of the day, three of the borders within the garden were cleared of weeds and brambles and the edges of each bed were well-defined. The local residents were thrilled with the results.
“On behalf of Charnwood Borough Council and the residents of Dudley Court, Quadron would like to express their thanks to all of the 3M volunteers for their superb effort. We very much look forward to working in partnership with them again in the near future.”
