The search for the UK’s top young floristry talent has come to an end as the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and British Floristry Association (BFA) name Charlotte Marrant as this year’s RHS Young Florist of the Year for her spectacular Alice in Wonderland inspired floral creation at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2015.
On winning the award 24 year old Charlotte from Eden Taunton Floral Design said, ‘I am shocked and delighted to be named RHS Young Florist of the Year as the talent this year was extremely high and I was up against some very stiff competition. This is the third year I have entered the competition achieving silver in 2011 and a gold last year, it really is third time lucky and I am absolutely thrilled to get best in show and to gain recognition for my floristry skills at the world famous show is an incredible honour.’
For this final stage of the competition the 12 florists were asked to enter the world of Alice in Wonderland in celebration of its 150th Anniversary by designing and creating a ‘Fantasy Floral Tree;’ inspired by the weird and wonderful Tulgey Wood of Alice in Wonderland. The exhibits were judged in line with 4 key criteria; idea, colour, composition and technique.
Commenting on Charlotte Marrant’s winning creation the UK Floristry Judges Guild said; ‘Charlotte gained top marks for interpretation of the schedule showing great originality, uniqueness and creativity. The display exhibited beautiful compositions using ribbon and movement to create balance and harmony.’
