Not afraid of scaling new heights, our turf sits proudly on many prominent UK green roofs.
From Peppa Pig World to the innovative Leeds Skelton Lake Services and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Wildflower Turf Ltd has been involved in numerous projects that showcase just how inspiring and successful green roofs can be. You name it, we’ve done it! From castles to bike sheds and everything in between.
Greening up roof space is an obvious quick-win to help improve biodiversity and mitigate climate change. We believe there is a huge amount of business potential in green roofs as UK environmental regulations focus increasingly on greening our infrastructure.
As well as the obvious aesthetic benefits, a green roof also helps to meet numerous regulations, such as assisting with planning permission (councils have a duty to maintain and enhance biodiversity) and meeting Biodiversity Net Gain targets.
Green roofs can assist to mitigate water run-off and become part of a Sustainable Drainage System (SUDs). Indeed, there are very few roof structures where wildflowers won’t work, and their inclusion offer benefits over and above conventional roofing systems.
It has also been well documented that green infrastructure can make a significant contribution to improving peoples psychological and physical health and well-being.
At Wildflower Turf Ltd we vehemently believe that green roofs are very much a part of the solution to the climate emergency, especially when considering the architecture of our cities.
As such, we are proud to be board members of the Green Roof Organisation (GRO). GRO is an independent not-for-profit Trade Association representing the UK Green, Blue and BioSolar Roofing industries. The organisation develops guidance documents and promotes the adoption of Green/Blue/BioSolar roofing technologies within the built environment.
Importantly, GRO produce a Green Roof Code of Best Practice for the UK, which has gained widespread acceptance in the construction market, being used as a reference document by standards bodies, specifiers, manufacturers, and contractors alike. The current edition of the code is available here and the cover features our very own Wildflower Turf® adorning the roof of Leeds Skelton Lakes Services.
Drawing on our many years of green roof expertise, Wildflower Turf Ltd also provide Green Roof Training, in conjunction with Living Roofs Academy (Bridgman & Bridgman) and Irrigation Engineers Ltd.
Our next face-to-face Green Roof Training dates are Wednesday 13th December and Thursday 14th December and bookings are now live.
This training day will combine theory with a hands-on practical installation session on our simulated green roof ‘rig’ using Wildflower Turf®. We will cover off troubleshooting and consider several illustrative case studies. All participants will qualify for a Lantra certificate of attendance, and this day-long session will set you up with an excellent working knowledge of green roof creation.
Our previous Green Roof courses have proven very popular, with 100% of previous attendees stating they would recommend the training to other landscaping professionals. To learn more or to secure your place on our December course, please email Stephanie: email@example.com.
