The SGD Conference live-streaming service, which was offered for the first time at the Society’s Spring Conference on the 27th April, has been hailed a great success. It attracted delegates from all over the world including New Zealand, USA, Slovakia, Finland, Austria, The Netherlands, Estonia and Ireland.
Introduced to allow the Society of Garden Designers to open its bi-annual conference out to a national and international audience, delegates were able to watch the conference live from London in the comfort of their own homes and offices anywhere in the world, sharing the experience with those at the venue. Following the event, recorded sessions are now also available to download via an on-demand archive.
Wickie Rowland, Landscape Designer and APLD Board Director, who watched the conference live from the USA, said:
“I was expecting a static shot from a corner of the room somewhere and so was thrilled by the quality and professionalism of the videography. There was just the right proportion of speaker view, slide view, audience view and close ups to make me feel like I was actually there. It was a great morning, and was worth getting up at 4:00am for!”
Craig Moyes, Chief Operating Officer at the Society of Garden Designers said:
”The success of live streaming the SGD Spring Conference totally exceeded our expectations. We will be building on this and live streaming our Autumn Conference too”.
The conference, which explored the topic ‘Sex in the Garden – flowers, fruit & foraging, featured a first-class line-up of speakers from the worlds of garden design, research and horticulture including fragrance & sensory research scientist Emma Desmier, French ecologist and nurseryman Olivier Filippi, naturalistic garden designer Noel Kingsbury, world-renowned rose expert Michael Marriot, Henrik Sjöman, scientific curator of the Gothenburg Botanical Garden, and Jim Buckland, one half of the inspirational duo behind the restoration of West Dean Gardens. Arit Anderson, garden designer, writer and presenter on BBC Two’s Gardeners’ World acted as chair.
Subscription to the on-demand archive to watch the entire conference or individual speakers is available via the SGD website. Prices start from £30 (inc VAT) for individual speakers or £105 (inc. VAT) to watch all six presentations.
