Agrigem announces new pest solution
Agrigem, a UK stockist of plant protection products, becomes an exclusive distributor of new pest solution Lanzarta.
This new solution for controlling large pine weevils comes in an effort to prevent the damaging effects to sitka spruce and other pine woodland caused by the pests.
With approximately 35 million sitka trees planted each year, the species accounts for an estimate of 50% for the entire £2bn UK forest industry trade.
Lack of treatment has previously led to increasing damage caused by the beetles.
Lauren Barker, Agrigem’s forestry account manager comments:
“This announcement today will come as a welcome relief to the UK forestry sector. Hylobius weevils cause significant damage to spruce, so the emergency authorisation will help protect this year’s natural and replanted saplings – giving them time to establish sufficiently.”
She adds this will give long-lasting protection against pests.
The active ingredient in Lanzarta will only affect insect pests feeding on treated plants and will stop further damage. There are positive toxicological and environmental profiles for the organisms not targeted.
Sales of Lanzarta will begin 15 April through until 13 August 2025 for trees to be treated once per season in a forestry setting between 15 April and 30 September 2025.
