Wyevale Nurseries achieves Planet Mark Certification
Wyevale Nurseries has achieved Planet Mark Certification in recognition of the company’s commitment to continuous improvements in sustainability.
In collaboration with Planet Mark, the Hereford-based nursery is now measuring and finding opportunities on an ongoing basis to reduce its carbon emissions, energy and water consumption, waste creation and more.
Tim Fawbert, Wyevale Nurseries’ group finance director, says: “We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions yearly so that we can all halt climate change together.
“Our company-wide location-based measured carbon footprint in the year ending July 2023 was 1,043.0tCO2e. The main components of this are fuel and gas, fleet travel, electricity, business travel and waste. Our measured carbon footprint per employee was 8.1 tCO2e.”
This is Wyevale Nurseries’ first year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to Planet Mark.
The initial 12 months was based on its commitment in its business operations to continuous improvement in sustainability.
This was achieved by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging with its stakeholders.
Fawbert says: “We will now use this certification as the basis on which to build our sustainability plans and to help us reduce our impact on the environment year-by-year.”
Wyevale Nurseries calculated the carbon footprint of its Head Office and Transplants, Trees and Container Divisions for the year ending July 2023 and set a target to reduce emissions by five percent annually.
Wyevale Nurseries’ product selection is envied across the industry and the talented team regularly introduces new, award-winning plant varieties.
Its main business is to supply garden centres, landscape contractors, local authorities, foresters and landowners with a comprehensive array of trees, shrubs, hedging, herbaceous and specimen plants.
Elsewhere, the nursery had a big role at Tatton Park by suppling plants for the ‘Long Border’ designs at the RHS show last month.
