DLF celebrates £4.5m facilities upgrade

DLF celebrates £4.5m facilities upgrade

The next phase of DLF’s UK headquarters £4.5m facilities upgrade officially opened at the end of June featuring the completion of major developments.

Opened by DLF’s UK managing director John Larson, the upgraded facilities include a Titan mixing plant, robotic packing lines, expanded UK native wildflower production and all-new trials and showcase area; A Living Catalogue.

Operations have been underway for almost two years, featuring Titan, the UK’s largest seed mixing plant, with a 48-bin twin mixer and fully automated packing line.

A central point to DLF’s operation, it supplies more than 14,000 tonnes to the UK market, correlating to almost 30,000 individual customer shipments.

Celebrating with members and press across the industry, they were invited to see DLF’s UK wildflower sites.

With over 80 acres across three sites and 50 different native flowering species, the wildflower production is managed by Klaas Broersma and a dedicated team.

Industry press were invited for a tour of the upgraded facilities

A Living Catalogue at the headquarters is a centrepiece landscape zone demonstrating mixtures across the DLF portfolio.

Derek Marriot-Smith, DLF’s amenity sales and marketing manager says the company is “pleased” to share the facilities upgrade to the industry. He adds:

“The new additions and significant investment put us in a fantastic position to support the needs of the sectors in which we operate both today and tomorrow.”

The site-wide facility upgrade intends to lead seed trials, product development, training and education of staff, distributors and customers.

DLF: A £3.5m expansion to meet demand

DLF: A £3.5m expansion to meet demand

Grass seed supplier, DLF has completed a £3.5m investment programme to increase production efficiency.

The supplier has introduced a new mixing plant technology known as ‘Titan’ to the breeding centre in Inkberrow, Worcestershire with the aim to improve seed quality and increase production capability by over double to meet market demand.

The technology will also aim to improve in-season capacity and efficiency.

Titan is equipped with almost 50 seed bins, which can hold up to 3 tonnes of seed, species dependant. The pneumatic closed system can input 12 tonnes per hour, and output six tonnes per hour from bins to mixers.

“We have experienced unprecedented demand for product across our portfolio in recent years and with this technology we can output more products to keep up with demand levels,” says DLF director of operations UK Martin Swinnerton.

The technology is self-cleaning, and has been fully integrated into the DLF’s operating system.
