Government extends electric van grant for businesses
The government has announced that it will extend the plug-in van and truck grant until at least 2027 to help businesses transition to electric vehicles.
The announcement comes as part of a £650m scheme to make it cheaper to buy electric vehicles and help to boost growth within the Plan for Change.
Currently offering discounts up to £2.5k for small vans, £5 for large vans, £16k for small trucks and £25k for large trucks, grant levels for 2026 and 2027 are yet to be confirmed.
According to the industry figures, businesses could save more than £2.8k annually on fuel.
Lilian Greenwood, future of roads minister, says this extension is a “step to power Britain’s transition to cleaner transport”.
While commercial transport is responsible for more than a third of CO2 emissions on UK roads, the government urges businesses to make the switch to electric.
In July, a £30m investment was announced to install over 3,000 new charge points at depots across the UK, while there are currently over 83,800 public charging points in the country already.
