Gallagher to deliver green public realm works at Barking Riverside

Barking Riverside Limited (BRL) has announced that construction company Gallagher Group is set to deliver the Circus and the Boulevard public realm works in Stage 2 North at Barking Riverside.

The Boulevard will be a new linear park incorporating dedicated pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, while the Circus will be a civic space designed to encourage community use and promote wellbeing.

As part of the scheme, BRL has said that 292 new trees will be planted. This is, according to the website, “to strengthen our approach to climate resilience and enhancing green infrastructure across the site”.

Alongside hard-landscaping, the scheme includes play areas, biodiverse planting, rain gardens and sustainable material use. Lighting and street furniture will be carefully integrated to support accessibility and safety.

Developed in collaboration with residents and charity Make Space for Girls, the public realm design responds to their needs, specifically young women and girls.

The Barking Riverside project also aims to maintain its strong ecology and home to a variety of native species.

Committed to sustainability, the entire project also maintains sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).

One of Europe’s biggest urban developments, Barking Riverside plans to deliver 20,000 homes, eventually creating a community of 50,000 Londoners.

Construction works for the Circus and the Boulevard start this week.
