RHS celebrates the King’s patronage
To celebrate His Majesty King Charles III becoming the charity’s royal patron, the Royal Horticultural Society has unveiled a new botanical painting known as a ‘Royal Signature’.
The painting was signed by The King when it was presented to His Majesty earlier this week at Sandringham.
Joining a series of more than 40 historic works, all signed by members of the royal family, The King became the RHS’ 15th royal patron last year.
Created by botanical artist Gillian Barlow inspired by The King’s favourite plants, the painting also features calligraphy by Timothy Noad.
Clare Matterson, director of the RHS, says, “this painting marks over 200 years of Royal patronage and is testament to the Royal Family’s true love of gardening and its enduring relationship with the RHS”.
A copy of the painting will join the current exhibition of royal signature paintings at the Sandringham Estate.
Other copies will also be displayed at RHS libraries at RHS Garden Wisley, RHS Garden Harlow Carr and RHS Lindley Library from 30 July 2025.
