Play England calls for safer spaces this Playday
As the UK celebrates Playday today, national play organisations are calling for safer spaces where children and young people of all abilities can play freely.
Play England, as well as Play Wales, PlayBoard NI and Play Scotland, is calling for playful spaces for children to improve physical and emotional health and wellbeing as a means to connect with nature and community.
The organisations call on developers, planners and community leaders to make this change.
Eugene Minogue, executive director at Play England says, “every child deserves to feel they belong, and that starts with space to play”.
Marguerite Hunter Blair, chief executive of Play Scotland also comments:
“Playing is fun and children love to play outside and connect with nature. Having accessible outdoor play spaces for everyone is at the heart of a healthy community.”
The organisation’s new strategy, It All Starts with Play!, explores a practical and ambitious roadmap to restore a play-based childhood and introduce safer spaces for all children by 2035.
