Populo picks Hawkins\Brown for Newham regeneration project

Populo Living has selected Hawkins\Brown to be the lead designer for phase two of the Carpenters Estate Regeneration, Lund Quarter project in Newham.

The decision comes after a selection process from Populo Living, Newham’s wholly owned housing company, involving leading architecture practices and input from residents.

A six-month procurement process also secured the services of Pell Frischmann, Aecom, Pillar and RPS.

It represents a significant step forward in the regeneration for the London Borough and the process of developing a design is now underway with the aim of submitting a detailed planning application in Autumn 2025.

Nick Clough, carpenters project director at Populo Living says: “We welcome Hawkins\Brown and the suite of outstanding companies to the Carpenters’ team.

“We look forward to working together to build on the good work set out in the outline masterplan with residents.”

Hawkins\Brown leads a design consortium that includes Bell Phillips, Fisher Cheng and Grant Associates.

The company was selected thanks to its vision to create a great place to live with a focus on high-quality design that emphasises community and sustainability.

The project will provide up to 500 new homes, including the renovation of the existing Lund Point tower, commercial space and extensive public realm.

Rokhsana Fiaz, mayor of Newham says: “The announcement of the winning design team for the Phase 2 – Lund Quarter on the Carpenters Estate marks an exciting milestone in progressing the vision set out by the residents in the estate-wide masterplan.

“This is a great outcome and will transform the lives of local people.”
