After a successful 2024, Tubex announces a major expansion of its tree shelter Collection and Recycling Programme.
With the intention of making it easier for landowners and tree planters to recycle used tree shelters responsibly; 1.1 million shelters have been recycled to date.
As the UK’s first dedicated scheme, Tubex expands its network of partners and distributors in 2025, with new collection points including West Chevington, RSK Wittington and Alba Trees Ltd.
Maintaining over 25 sites across the UK, these new locations join current partners such as Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, Tilhill, Maydencroft and Green-tech.
This increase in accessibility encourages landowners and tree planters to drop off used shelters for free, or by booking a doorstep collection for a small fee.
The collection and recycling programme accepts used polypropylene or polyethylene tree shelters or mesh tubes from all manufacturers, which are then recycled into new shelters to ensure waste is at a minimum.
Pete Stevens, business development manager at Tubex says the growth of this programme “can be achieved through strong collaboration and shared sustainability values,” adding:
“Our goal has always been to make it easier for landowners to ensure shelters aren’t left in the environment, and the expanded hub network means more people than ever can do the right thing.”

Tubex has expanded the reach of its Tree Shelter Collection and Recycling Programme by providing new hubs around the UK where tree shelters can be dropped off to be recycled for free.
The scheme is a joint initiative with charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium (YDMT), which opened a number of its own recycling hubs in 2021.
There will be a total of 14 national hub locations, five of which will be provided by Tubex’s parent company Berry Global.
Landscape provider, Green-tech will also be supplying a hub for free shelter collection, at its premises in North Yorkshire.
Green-tech’s sales director Richard Gill says: “Tubex aim is to increase accessibility and proximity whilst limiting any unnecessary costs for end users, so that people are not discouraged to recycle shelters at end-of-life by having to fund and organise their disposal process. Green-tech is delighted to get involved and offer our support. We are the biggest distributor of tree protection products in the UK and feel we have a duty to offer practical solutions to removing plastic that has served its purpose, from the environment.”
Tubex will be covering all costs post hub drop off, including washing, recycling and re-pelletizing the material to be recycled into more shelters.
All Tubex shelters can be recycled at the hubs, in addition to all Polypropylene shelters manufactured by other brands, they can be identified by a small ‘PP’ symbol on the tree shelter.
Tubex marketing & product development director, James Taylor says: “We are so pleased to be able to announce the launch of our recycling hubs with the support of YDMT and partners – since its inception, our plan has been to continually progress the Tubex Collection and Recycling Programme and offer the opportunity for our customers to recycle their shelters locally.”

Yorkshire-based supplier Green-tech has been announced as an official partner for a recently launched recycling scheme by tree guard manufacturer Rainbow Professional.
The Rainbow Recycling Scheme for old PVC spiral or PVC vole guards is available to any professional end user.
Dean Jackson, head of Green-tech sales, says: “It is not currently feasible to eradicate plastic totally, but we can do the next best thing – we can use recycled plastic. And in partnership with Rainbow Professional, we can collect and recycle old tree spirals and give them a new life rather than leave in the environment or commit to landfill.”
Bags can be ordered from Green-tech or direct from Rainbow. Once full they will be collected and transported to Rainbow’s manufacturing facility in Hull where they will be shredded and washed if needed. Depending on the quality, they may be immediately usable to process into new spirals, processed further into pellets, or used as in-fill for window frames.
“It is recommended to remove hedge spirals between September and March when hedge plants are bare of leaves and the bird nesting season has finished,” adds Jackson. “For collections of 6-15 bags (each bag will hold approximately 700 spirals), the scheme will run from April to September, outside of the planting season. However, for collection of over 15 bags, the scheme will run all year round.”
PVC can be used up to nine times, making it “one of the most recyclable polymers in the world.” Rainbow Professional uses 100% recycled materials, which it says is estimated to save at least two million kilograms of carbon every year and 50 million kilograms to date over the past 25 years.
Green-tech is running several free webinars, each lasting around 30 minutes, to explain the scheme and the process in detail. The first is being held on Tuesday 25 April. To reserve your place, click here.

Tubex has announced a major expansion of its Tree Shelter Collection and Recycling Programme as a “convenient way” for customers to handle the products “responsibly” at end of life.
The tree shelter specialist is providing hubs around the UK where tree shelters can be dropped off to be recycled. Tubex will be covering the costs to ensure the service is free of charge. This includes bailing, washing, recycling and re-pelletizing the material so that it can be used to create more shelters. All types of tree shelters will accepted, providing they are made from Polypropylene.
The scheme is a joint initiative with charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT), which opened several hubs of its own in 2021. There will be a total of 14 national hub locations launched this year. Tubex’s parent company Berry Global will provide five of the hub locations, while forest and woodland management company Tillhill is also supporting the scheme by offering two locations for shelter collection.
Tubex’s marketing & product development director, James Taylor explains: “Since its inception, our plan has been to continually progress the Tubex Collection and Recycling Programme and offer the opportunity for our customers to recycle their shelters locally. This new hub scheme is a significant investment from Tubex into the industry to ensure responsible solutions for the tree shelters at their end of life.”
The news of the scheme comes after the company’s recent announcement of its Grow Together Programme, a charitable planting initiative where Tubex is offering tree shelter donation to a different voluntary planting project each quarter.
