Premier Forest Products strengthens UK timber distribution

Premier Forest Products strengthens UK timber distribution

Premier Forest Products completes the acquisition of Arnold Laver’s Hull operation to further strengthen its distribution, manufacturing and logistics across the north and north-east of England.

The announcement comes after Premier Forest’s recent purchases of Arnold Laver sites in Manchester and Reading.

Formerly part of National Timber Group UK, which wen into administration in November, both sites are now managed by Premier Forest.

The new site purchase safeguards 18 jobs, following the safeguarding of more than 36 jobs at the Manchester and Reading sites.

Premier Forest reveals that further plans to recruit for all three branches means staff numbers could reach 150 employees.

Terry Edgell, co-founder and chief executive officer of Premier Forest says “the latest acquisition is another important step in strengthening Premier Forest’s presence across the north and north-east of England.” He adds:

“The Hull operation significantly extends our geographic coverage and delivery capability, enabling us to better support customers across Yorkshire, the Humber and the wider north-east with a broader range of timber products and faster, more resilient supply.”

All recent acquisitions extend Premier Forest’s product offering, geographic reach, distribution and delivery capacity.

New MEDITE SMARTPLY survey reveals building sector pressures

New MEDITE SMARTPLY survey reveals building sector pressures

A survey, conducted by MEDITE SMARTPLY and the Structural Timber Association has revealed major pain points within the building sector.

The report; framing the future: The state of timber frame construction, was conducted using responses from 80 timber frame manufacturers working across residential, social housing and education.

73% of those asked reported labour shortages across the workforce, and 43% ranked fire performance as their number one challenge.

The report found that while there is a clear desire to meet higher performance standards, there is also a disconnect between policy ambition and practical realities of delivery.

UK law requires net zero emissions by 2050, which has added to the complexity for the building sector, according to the report.

Roly Ward, head of business development at MEDITE SMARTPLY comments:

“We’re hearing a clear message from the sector: manufacturers are being asked to move fast without clear footing. That’s not sustainable.”
