Environmental Agency begins Kidlington waste clearance
Work has begun by the Environmental Agency to clear the illegal waste dump in Kidlington, Oxfordshire.
Following the large-scale dumping of waste in the area during the summer, Environmental Agency officers have been monitoring the site whilst restricting access to prevent further dumping.
However, during the initial clearing, the agency has removed several damaged trees with more to come to create access to the illegal waste.
Since, the Environmental Agency has pledged to plant two more trees for every one that is felled.
Whilst the Environmental Agency is not legally responsible of clearing the illegal waste and is not funded to do so, the organisation continues to support the principal. Philip Duffy, chief executive, comments:
“The brazen criminality at Kidlington has appalled all of us at the Environment Agency. Our local teams have been at this site working with partners to reduce harm and minimise risks while we pursue those responsible.”
Since the risk of fire was announced, the agency stepped in to manage the workload.
Whilst preliminary work is beginning, the actual removal of the 10,000 tonnes of waste is not set to start until February.
