Feltham celebrates former resident Freddie Mercury with new memorial garden
Queen’s lead guitarist Sir Brian May and Freddie Mercury’s sister Kashmira Bulsara unveiled the new Freddie Mercury Memorial Garden on Feltham Green in west London as a tribute to the Bohemian Rhapsody singer whose legacy will rock you forever.
Acting as the first phase of the Feltham Green masterplan, delivered by Hounslow Council in partnership with the Friends of Feltham Green, the garden transforms an underused space into a safe and vibrant community area.
Once a place where Mercury lived with his parents, Feltham also stands as the town where he met bandmate May ahead of forming Queen.
“It’s so nice that they’ve honoured Freddie in this way, as a son of the village. We’re very proud,” explains May.
The garden features new landscaping, steps and sightlines, joined by flowers advised by Bulsara such as Freddie Mercury Roses.
Also hosting a green eco cabin, the zero-carbon building has been designed for community activities and workshops.
Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, leader of Hounslow Council, comments on the garden’s opening ceremony:
“The Freddie Mercury Memorial Garden is a fitting tribute to one of Feltham’s most iconic residents, and the eco cabin shows how we can deliver sustainable, community-led regeneration that leaves a real legacy.”
The next phase of the masterplan includes a new family area, biodiversity improvements and the construction of a new boardwalk.
