Gavin Jones – The Plantation held its first open day specifically aimed at their trade customers on Thursday October 22nd at their nursery just outside of Weybridge in Surrey.
The ‘Autumn Trade Customers Event’ offered visitors a 20 percent discount on all their stock and complimentary hot dogs throughout the day.
A permanent display garden called ‘The Etoile Garden’ wowed visitors at the nursery gates and showcased fully fitted ‘Firemagic’ outdoor kitchens and ‘George Smith’ outdoor furniture complete with a working fireplace.
Alan Young, front of house manager, said: “The event succeeded my expectations. The previous day was very wet and in this industry, a wet day usually means catching up the following day. To over succeed on our expected visitors was a massive success.”
The nursery sells a unique range of top quality plants including specimen trees and shrubs, topiary in all shapes and sizes, and hedging plants as well as a huge range of large pots.
Exquisite planting of Box Head Carpinus, mature Olea’s and late summer perennial planting surrounded the outdoor entertaining space and the ‘Autumn Walk’ displayed seasonal plants, masses of evergreens, a selection of Dicksonia’s trunk sizes and plant containers.
Alan, who has worked at The Plantation since April 2015, said that the nursery was busy all day long and a high percentage of garden designers, landscape contractors, private estate head gardeners and interior landscapes attended the open day.
He said: “Certainly there were customers who I have known for many years but having only joined The Plantation this previous Spring, for many of them it was their first visit to the nursery. This meant there were certainly a good number of first time visitors combined with regular customers.”
The Plantation has held events for retail customers during the summer and has also become a sales outlet for Livinggreendesign ‘professional’ containers.
Alan said that the nursery will be holding similar events in the future for retail and trade customers.
He added: “Networking has never been more important and holding events like this allows the team at The Plantation to talk directly with the customers. We need to show the industry the quality of plants and services we offer. Don’t be putting a date in your diary for next autumn yet though as we’ll be organising other events like this one before Autumn 2016.”
The Plantation will be exhibiting at FutureScape on Tuesday, November 17th 2015 at Sandown Park Racecourse in Esher, Surrey where Alan, Kevin White, who is in charge of buying and logistics, and Wayne Trundle, planting contracts supervisor, will be showcasing a choice selection of their specimen plants.
Kevin, Alan and Wayne will also be promoting The Plantation’s newly launched web shop that will give visitors the opportunity to register for trade and to order online for click and collect and nationwide delivery. To view the web shop, visit www.gavinjonesdreamgardens.co.uk
