Solid Soul Design will be exhibiting at this year’s FutureScape event. Pro Landscaper spoke to Solid Soul Design ahead of the event to find out more about the company, the products it supplies and the next step for it.
Can you tell us a little more about Solid Soul Design?
Solid Soul Design is a small family business, run by Brendan and Kieron McSherry. We design and manufacture street and garden furniture for the public and private domain. We established in 2001 at the vanguard of concrete production in the furniture industry, and moved on to using Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) as a more practical and environmentally friendly alternative.
What are the main products you supply?
Currently we have a mix of products that cover the requirements for outdoor furniture from seating to planting and tables with some that combine all of the above.
Our Hex-Blocks use GRC to make a shell of concrete, approximately 18mm thick. The hexagonal blocks come in different heights, reminiscent of the Giants Causeway and can be arranged as integrated seating and planting areas, opening up spaces and divide gardens accordingly. They are light and durable, giving gardeners the opportunity to get creative and playful!
This summer we also added a new product to our range, The Snug Bench, which combines GRC and oak. Designed to bridge the gap between modern and traditional style, the oak is reminiscent of the long tradition of garden benches, while the sleek lines and curves of GRC brings it into a new era. The Snug Bench was launched this year at Hampton Court Flower Show on Lower Barn Farms Outdoor Living Garden by Robert Grimstead, which won a Silver Gilt award. For this garden, the concrete was cast in turquoise to match the planting and landscaping.
What are the key selling points of your products?
We aim to make all our products practical and enjoyable to use as well adding a sculptural element to the landscape. The materials we use are durable and low maintenance making them perfect for outdoor and public spaces. We make all our products to order in the UK.
Where do you deliver to and what are your delivery times?
We deliver all over the UK and Europe within 6-8 weeks
What’s the next step for the company?
This year we are trying to build links with the landscaping community, and increase awareness of our products, and the benefits of using GRC. Also keep an eye this spring for new products!
