What Lies Beneath – An Exclusive Collaboration Between The APL and Professor David Stevens

In their 25th anniversary year, the APL has joined forces with award-winning garden designer Professor David Stevens to create a ground-breaking show garden at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2020.
‘What Lies Beneath’ is a completely unique show garden that will demystify its build for show visitors.
As visitors walk through the beautifully presented garden, experiencing all the elements, including a raised glass fronted pool, green living wall, a steel walkway and a paved driveway, they’ll be able to view a reconstruction of the underlying foundations in an eye-level cross-section.
Visitors will come away with inspiration. Along with a better understanding of the significance of what goes on beneath the surface – the details that aren’t usually on show.
The garden will also help visitors to feel more confident in conversations with landscaping companies, interpreting quotes and understanding some of the more technical terms.
Professor David Stevens is the name behind some of the most memorable show gardens at BBC Gardeners’ World Live. Memorable gardens include the Wyevale Garden Centres’ Solutions Garden (Platinum Award, 2018), two front Gardens for the Young Landscapers Award (both Gold Awards, 2019) as well as the iconic Anniversary Garden, celebrating the Gardeners’ World’s 50th anniversary.
The APL team and David Stevens will be on-hand throughout all four days of the event, advising and guiding visitors through the process of creating their own dream garden and sharing their wealth of knowledge.
Visitors will come away feeling more confident about working with contractors, and how to understand terminology. As well as understanding the importance and costs of good preparation and sound construction.
Marshalls will be supplying products from their domestic range and Rolawn will be supplying turf and topsoil.
BBC Gardeners’ World Live takes place from 18 to 21 June 2020 at The NEC Birmingham. For tickets
