Winner announced for RHS and BBC Pocket Garden Makeover contest

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and BBC The One Show have announced the winner of the Pocket Garden Makeover contest.

Sara Tacchi from Bristol entered the competition in the hopes of transforming her flat’s small and narrow garden that runs beside a busy roundabout.

Tacchi lives with a condition that makes accessing outdoor space for long periods of time difficult, and having a garden on her doorstep is “hugely beneficial”, says the RHS.

With dreams of growing her own produce, Tacchi recognised the challenges presented by her limited space and wanted to make use of all available window ledges and walls to create her own private oasis.

Together the RHS and The One Show want to demonstrate the positive benefits of gardening, as well as highlight the small changes people can make to their ‘pocket-sized’ outdoor space.

As the winner, Tacchi will receive a small garden makeover up to the value of £5,000 by garden designer Chris Hull, known in part for presenting BBC One’s Garden Rescue.

Hull comments on the announcement, saying: “No matter what the size, everyone deserves a garden space where they can relax, immerse themselves in nature, and support wildlife in their local area. I can’t wait to help the worthy winner and to inspire many more people to ‘green-up’ their lives.”
