Wyevale Nurseries is once again supplying plants for a selection of the ‘Long Border’ designs at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park taking place next week.

Designed by final year landscape architect students, the four sponsored borders look to meet the RHS challenge of ‘Make a Statement’.

Wyevale Nurseries’ amenity sales executive, Alan Young, comments on the opportunities available when designing a Long Border, saying it offers “designers, gardeners and horticultural students to showcase their creativity”.

He goes on to say: “We invited some of the students whose designs we’re sponsoring this year to come in recently to select the plants they need and we’re now looking forward to seeing them in place at Tatton next week.”

The four Wyevale Nurseries sponsored borders are ‘Authenticity’ by Cara Gaffney, Kaci Purnell and Katie Bishop, ‘Growth Begins with Reflection’ by Victoria Bettany, Eloise Wood and Sophie Wiseman, ‘Temporal Bloom Odyssey’ by Bayley Blyther, Ashley Woollaston and Jessica Richardson and ‘Nectar Nook’ by Megan Chopp, Phoebe Hunt and Ayomide Palmer.

‘Authenticity’ is themed around self-expression and human interconnectedness. It includes an array of plants chosen for their distinctive characteristics.

‘Growth Begins with Reflection’ is inspired by the work of the artist Frida Kahlo, exploring the pressures of social media and the effects they have on people’s mental health.

The ‘Temporal Bloom Odyssey’ border looks to offer a journey through the narrative of time and change with key features representing the past, present, and future. Vibrant blooms and abstract textures are key to this design.

Meanwhile, ‘Nectar Nook’ emphasises the potential impact of smaller spaces with a design that integrates pollinator-supporting elements like shelters, burrow sites and Fragaria (wild strawberry) for nourishment.

All four of the Long Border designs will feature at this year’s RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park, taking place July 17-21, 2024.
